At 31 hectares The Base is New Zealand’s largest mixed-use property asset outside of Auckland. It consists of an enclosed regional shopping centre, Te Awa, as well as large format retailing located on the site of a former airforce base at Te Rapa in growing North Hamilton.
With some 160 retail stores and 3,330 carparks, the Base also offers further redevelopment land with zoning allowing for a range of future uses. Construction began in 2004 as a joint venture with The Warehouse Group, and TGH acquired full ownership in 2007. The Base has been operated as a 50:50 joint venture with Kiwi Property since 2016 and Kiwi Property manage the day-to-day operations under a management agreement.
